Zipfel into the HOF with Win at Park Mammoth
Harrison Zipfel (University of Illinois Commit) torched Park Mammoth's undulating greens during the first round when he posted a 63 (-7)! His opening round consisted of 9 birdies, 5 of them coming on his back nine to shoot a bogey-free 30 on his way in. Zipfel took a three-stroke lead over Layton Richey heading into Sunday's final round. Zipfel added 4 more birdies to his tally en route to a level par round of 70 and earned the victory in the Boys 16-19 and overall Boys 14-19 divisions! This victory earned him a spot in the GolfWeek Junior Tour Hall of Fame!
Layton Richey finished runner-up in the Boys 16-19 division after rounds of 66-68 -- 134 (-6). Although he came up one stroke short, Richey put the heat on Zipfel late in the final round, carding bridies on his final two holes of the event. Barron Mundy rounded out our podium finishers at 1-under par for the event after rounds of 71-68 -- 139.
The Girls 15-19 division was a close race to the finish line as the top 5 were all within three strokes with three holes to play. Chloe Boyd led the way after round 1 by three strokes with a 71 (+1) but found herself on the 16th hole of the final round with just a one-stroke lead over Rowan Pies. Chloe would go on to birdie her final two holes of the event to complete her wire-to-wire victory and earn his first GWJT win! Chloe carded rounds of 71-75 -- 146 (+6), including 7 birdies over the 36 holes of play. Ava South and Rowan Pies tied for second place at 150 (+10). Kenzie Willen and Claire Reynolds rounded out our top 5 in a tie for 4th place at 151 (+11).
Lyoto Bellon earned his first GWJT victory at Park Mammoth in the Boys 14-15 division! He would card 9 birdies on his way to consistent rounds of 70-70 -- 140 (E) and earn a five-stroke victory! Jack Coulter was the runner up finisher after rounds of 74-71 -- 145 (+5). Jack led the field in par 5 scoring at 2-under par for the tournament! Grant Guetig rounded out our medal winners in third place after carding 76-71 -- 147 (+7).
Ellie Morgan took home the Girls 14 and Under division trophy after rounds of 87-83 -- 170 (+30) earned her a ten-stroke victory! Ellie carded 2 birdies during her final round to solidify herself as the champion. Briley Billingsley finished runner up in the division with rounds of 98-82 -- 180 (+40).
Hunter Majors took home the Boys 13 and Under division title and earned his 3rd victory of the season! Hunter opened the event with an even-par round of 70, including 3 birdies on his card. He would complete his wire-to-wire victory with a 75 in the final round for a 145 (+5) two-day total score and a six-stroke victory. This victory also locked up his Boys 13 and Under Fall Player of the Year title! Max DeHaven finished runner up after rounds of 76-75 -- 151 (+11). Charlton Zhuang and Scribner Dailey IV finished in a tie for third place at 155 (+15).
