Yun, Sheffer win Elite Event at NorthStar
Our first Elite Event of our wrap-around reason took place at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury, OH. Keira Yun earned her second win of the Summer in commanding fashion after shooting rounds of 70-67 for a total score of 7-under par, 137. Keira carded 9 birdies and only 2 bogies over the 36-hole event, which led her to a nine-stroke victory over Serena Wu in second place. Serena carded rounds of 74-72 to finish the event at 2-over par, 146. Paige Weiss was our third-place finisher at 3-over par 147.
Our Boys 16-19 division put on a scoring display at NorthStar GC as 15 of the 64 players finished at level par or better. Micah Sheffer was tied at the top of the leaderboard with Michael Distefano after both players shot 67, five-under par, in the opening round. Sheffer would continue his excellent play into round 2 which allowed him to hold off Distefano coming down the finishing stretch on day 2. Micah finished the event at seven-under par, 137, making 9 birdies and an eagle on his road to victory in the Boys 16-19 and overall Boys 14-19 divisions. Michael Distefano finished in solo-second with a total score of 139, five-under par. Silas Kirkpatrick, Andy Steed and Alex Rollman all finished in a tie for third place at 140, four-under par.
Michael Pagnotto took home the trophy in the Boys 14-15 division after rounds of 69-72 earned him a one-stroke victory over Dane Starnes. Michael carded 7 bridies over the two rounds, but his ability to save pars and eliminate the big numbers had the greater impact on his victory. Dane finished with rounds of 69-73 to find himself in solo second, with Evan Menges rounding out our podium at level par for the tournament.
