Windy Weekend in Oxford
Ava Bunker continued her impressive year this weekend at Indian Ridge with her 3rd win this season. Ava has not finished outside the top 3 in all 6 starts this year and claimed this weekend's title over a strong field with two rounds of 74. Ava started Sunday 4 strokes back of the overall girl leader, Athena Singh, but Ava's front nine 35 would bring the tournament to a tie with 9 holes left. Ava would post another 6 pars on the back nine and claim the Girls 15-19 and overall girls title by 2 strokes over a charging Morgan Rogers who fired the low round of the day with a 71, and Avery Wright who both posted 150 totals.
In only his second start this season, Shane Ochs claimed the overall boys title this weekend after a two hole playoff with Christopher Harpum. Shane started Sunday 4 strokes off Brett Podobinski's first round lead score of a 69, but opened with a front nine 35 that would tie him for the lead. However, a double bogey on the 10th hole would mean he needed to finish the last 8 holes in one under par to secure a playoff with Christopher Harpum. Harpum, who posted the second low round of the day with a 1 under par, 71, played his final 5 holes in three under par to get into the playoff. The playoff went to hole #1, where after two pars, Shane would birdie the second hole and grab the title.
The Boys 14-15 title was a tight race this weekend with the top 5 finishers all within 2 strokes of each other. However, it was Bradley Chill that was able to hang on for the victory after two solid rounds of 74-76 and take home his first victory on the GolfWeek Jr Tour. Clifton Scully, and Joseph Suzas made it a tight race posting rounds of 75 on Sunday, but Bradley was able to back up close out the title with a solid 14 pars on Sunday in another day that saw high winds.
Athena Singh posted an incredible round of 2 under par 70 on Saturday that included a front nine four under par, 32. That front nine score would give her the overall girls lead for the first 27 holes of the tournament. Athena would go on to win the Girls 14 & Under title by 10 strokes and claim her 3rd win in just 4 starts this Spring.
Cayse Morgan is becoming a consistent name on the GolfWeek Jr Tour taking home wins in his last two starts. His last win at Pipestone included a Sunday 67, this weekend it would be a Sunday round of 69. Cayse took home the title with the help of playing his final 16 holes in 4 under par to edge out the first round leader, Ryan Parker. This is Cayse's second win in 6 starts this season.
