University week at Michigan State and Ball State
Michigan State University hosted one of our two events this past weekend on the West Course at Forest Akers Golf Course. The Boys 16-19 division was flooded with fantastic scores as 10 players finished at level par or better. Nathan Le-Nguyen opened with a bogey-free, 67 and never looked back. He would card 7 birdies in the final round to shoot 66, six-under par and take home the title at 11-under par. Jaiden Brown carded rounds of 69-66 to finish in second place at 9-under par. Michael Houtteman rounded out our podium finishers after a bogey-free, 67 in the final round propelled him up the leaderboard.
The Boys 14-15 division was dominated by David Krusinski who led from wire to wire. After an opening round 70, David carded a bogey-free, 66 in the final round to win the division by 10 strokes! David led the division in par breakers with 9 birdies and an eagle over the two days of competition. Landon Guenther finished runner up at 2-over par, 146. Julian Sinishtaj finished in 3rd place at 3-over par, 147.
Grace Celso took home the title in the Girls 15-19 division after rounds of 78-69. Grace was two strokes off the leader, Sophia Stanton after the opening round. Grace turned on the jets in the final round and played her final 8 holes in 4-under par to earn the victory! Sophia Stanton was runner up in the division with a two-day total score of 160. Isabelle Duflo finished in 3rd place with a two-day total of 182.
Timothy Wagemann won the Boys 13 & Under division after carding rounds of 72-78 for a two-day total score of 150. Wagemann carded 2 eagles and 2 birdies during round 1 to help build the lead that he would not give back. Timothy Delzer came in second place 3 strokes behind the lead at 9-over par, 153. Jack Logar rounded out our podium finishers at 12-over par, 156.
Ball State University played host to our other event of the weekend at The Player’s Club @ Woodland Trails. Similar to the event at MSU, the Boys 16-19 division scored incredibly well with 11 players at level par or better. Brayden Miller, fresh off a win at Purdue last week, took home another trophy. Brayden carded rounds of 66-67 to finish the event at 11-under par and earn a 5-stroke victory. Brayden finished the event in style, making 4 birdies on his final 4 holes! Silas Haarer and Max Steiner finished in a tie for second place at 6-under par. Samuel Harris finished in fourth place at 4-under par after consistent rounds of 70-70.
The Boys 14-15 division also had plenty of fireworks with the top 6 players finishing under par. Alex Cook, Macaulay Myers, and Luke Haarer were all tied at the top after opening with rounds of 70. Alex Cook was able to jump out in front during the final round and carded 8 birdies in route to a 6-under par, 66 and the victory! Macaulay would finish runner up at 5-under par, 3 strokes behind the leader. Landon Tropf and Luke Haarer finished in a tie for 3rd at 3-under par.
Hunter Majors took home to the trophy in the Boys 13 & Under division. He carded 8 birdies over both rounds to fire rounds of 70-71 for a 3-under par two-day total. Gavin Davis finished runner up, 5 strokes back of the lead at 2-over par. Cole Sweikar rounded out our podium finishers at 7-over par in third place.
