University Week at Marshall and Indiana
Julian Dugan brought the heat at Guyan Golf & Country Club with an opening round 65 (-6). He backed up his overnight lead with a level par second round (71) to win the Boys 16-19 and overall Boys 14-19 divisions. Julian slightly stumbled in round 2 on his opening nine holes, allowing the chasers to close in. However, 6 pars and 3 birdies on his final nine holes earned him a 4-stroke victory over Sammy Shy. Sammy finished with a 2-day total score of 140 (-2) after the low round of the second day with a 68. Jack Michael and Bradley Hinkel tied for 3rd place at 1 over par and a total score of 143.
Brigid Nickel won the Girls 15-19 division at Guyan G&CC by two strokes over Eva Emerson. Brigid and Eva were tied going into round 2 after both girls shot 81 the first day. Brigid finished with a second-round score of 76 to take the trophy with a two-day total of 157. Eva shot 78 in the final round for a total score of 159. Sage Shriver rounded off our podium with a two-day total of 167.
Andrew Singer won our Boys 14-15 division at Guyan G&CC after two solid rounds of 71-73 for a two-day total of 144 (+2). Singer made 7 birdies and 27 pars over the two rounds. Will Jones finished in second place at 148 (+6), just four shots back of the leader. Collin Bauer was our third-place finisher at a total score of 151.
Peyton Blackard earned his 16th win on the GWJT at the Pfau Course at Indiana University. Peyton won the Boys 16-19 and overall Boys 14-19 age divisions with rounds of 68-72 (-2). He carded 7 birdies around the very difficult Pfau course in windy and rainy conditions. Ian Perry finished three strokes behind Blackard, posting rounds of 72-71. Rounding out our top 3 finishers was Xavier Huestis, coming in just one stroke behind Ian Perry after rounds of 70-74. Xavier notably carded two eagles on his opening nine holes of the tournament.
Keira Yun won the Girls 15-19 division by 11 strokes after rounds of 68-79 for a two-day total of 147 (+3) at the Pfau Course. She opened the tournament with a 4-under par 68 to build an eight-shot lead that she would not surrender. Hanyu Lyu was runner up with rounds of 77-81. Finishing two strokes behind Hanyu was Tess Guignon who rounded out our podium finishers.
The Boys 14-15 division went to a sudden death playoff after three players were tied at the top after 36 holes of competition. Matthew Kreusch, Benjamin Divido, and Eli Rowland all finished with a two-day total score of 153. Eli finished with 3 birdies in his final 4 holes to earn himself a spot in the playoff. After scoring was complete, all three players went to the Hole No. 1 for start of the playoff. Three pars on Hole No. 1 forced a second sudden death playoff hole. The trio went to the par 3 7th hole where Matthew Kreusch stuck his approach to 12 feet and made his birdie putt to win the playoff and the Boys 14-15 division!
