Montgomery Clinches First Win
Brock Montgomery poured in five birdies in his round on Thursday to wrap up his first career win on the Golfweek Junior Tour. Brock's opening round 71 was good enough to place him tied for the lead after one round at Beavercreek Golf Club. On Thursday, he posted a 70 which was just enough breathing room to come out on top with a one stroke victory. He shot 141 (71-70) in his first event of the new season. Achira Chumchaivate (72-70) came in second place with a 142 total. Noah Mulford shot rounds of 72-74 for a 146 total and third place.
Toku Fujiwara shot the round of tournament on Thursday to grab his third Golfweek Junior Tour win. Toku's second round included six birdies en route to a four under par 68. It was made even more impressive after a bogey-bogey start, which meant the last 16 holes were six under par. He was five strokes behind the first round leader to start the day but his birdie barrage saw him take the lead on the fifth hole and never looked back. Toku finished at 142 (74-68). Evan Menges came in second place with rounds of 69-82 for a 151 total. Hudson Barkley shot 81-73 (154) and finished in third.
Kristina Ma won for the second time in her Golfweek Junior Tour career and the first time since last summer at Beavercreek on Thursday. Kristina was locked in a duel the entire second day. She found herself one stroke back after 11 holes on the second day. Kristina then played the final seven holes in one under par with no bogeys to secure the win. She shot 78-73 for a 151 total over the two days. Carter Lankford finished in second after scores of 78-75 for a 153 total. Lorna Zhang posted a 155 (79-76) total and came in third place.
Michael Moorman started the second round two shots behind the lead. After nine holes, he's lessened that lead to one. And after 36 holes, Michael caught up and forced a playoff. He birdied the first playoff hole to seal his third career GJT win and second of the summer. His comeback was largely due to his steady play as he didn't record anything over a bogey all day on Thursday. Michael shot 76-75 for a 151 total. Owen Heilmann came in second place at Beavercreek after his rounds of 74-77, 151. William Qiao finished in third place with rounds of 80-83 for a 163 total.
Karis Reid posted the low round of the day on both days to take home the title in the Girls 14 and Under division. The victory is the second of Karis' Golfweek Junior Tour career. Her victory was punctuated by a 39 on the final nine holes, including two birdies. That was half of the 84 that she shot on the day, the low round of the tournament. Karis finished with a total of 169 (85-84). Ella Lu came in second place with scores of 87-91 for a 178 total.
