Hollenbeck and Xue Earn Standout Wins
Future Wright State Raider, Timmy Hollenbeck, shot rounds of 70-67 to win The Wright State University tournament hosted at Heatherwoode Golf Club on July 18-19. Timmy carded 10 birdies over the 36 holes, and made his 11th birdie in the play-off hole to secure his victory. His final round 5 birdies, 4 of them taking place on the front 9. Runner-up, Achira Chumchaivate, shot rounds of 69-68, for his second runner-up finish in his last two starts. His back 9 charge on Wednesday included birdie-eagle-birdie on holes 14, 15, 16. Peyton Butler shot a bogey-free final round of 67 to earn his third place finish.
Mitchell Sargent captured his first victory of the 2023-2024 season after his continuous good play all summer. He has 5 top 5 finishes over his events this summer. His final round, even par 71, was enough to secure a 1-shot victory on Wednesday. Brady Barnum steady play this summer added a runner-up finish after scores of 73-75, earning him a third-place finish and a second-place finish on the season thus far. Matthew Keusch shot rounds of 74-77-151 capping him with the third place, recording his third top-4 finish of the season.
Blaise Barnum earned a 1st place finish, adding a second win in 2 starts. His victory was first fueled by a first round 68, including a back 9 30 that included 5 birdies. Emily Gottman was the only player under par for the girls 15-19 division, earning herself a first place victory after recording a 69 first round finish. After an eagle 2 on #13, Emily cruised to victory with 5 straight pars, to round out her -1 finish, totaling a 70 on Wednesday. Kylah Lunsford and Caroline Thompson tied for second place at +3. Caroline Thompson took home the second place medal with her back 9-35 on Wednesday that included 3 birdies. Kylah Lundsford continued her steady play this summer with a second and third place finish thus far.
Nikitha Suresh earned herself a first place trophy in the girls 14u division finish after rounds of 74-83-157.
Yiyi Xue cruised to her first place with rounds of 71-72-143 recording 9 birdies at The University of Michigan hosted at The University of Michigan Golf Course. Yiyi +1 finish help her prevail with a 7 shot win for the Girls 15-19 division. This event was Yiyi's first GWJT win. Diya Brar earned herself a runner-up finish 78-72-150 over July 18-19. Diya recorded 8 pars on her final back 9 on Wednesday, adding to her steady play for the 2023-2024 season thus far. Mia Ringger tallied scores of 79-75-154, earning herself a third place finish.
Ellie Gonzalez-Ribble defended her title at U of M club following her victory last year. Ellie recorded 12 pars for her final round on Wednesday, earning herself a 14-shot victory. Aanya Bansal and Ella Lu tied for second place. Aanya improved her second round score by 4 shots, earning her the second place medal. In Ella's 2 starts of the season, she has finished third and runner-up, continuing her stellar play thus far.
Sam Fauver was the only under par finisher, earning himself a first-place victory with rounds of 72-69. His one-shot victory included 4 birdies in his final round, fueling his -2 final round on Wednesday. Sam continues with his summer stellar play for the 2023-2024 season. Ryan Schiefferle, Charles Uzelac, and Liam Curtis all tied for second place on Wednesday. Liam Curtis broke the tiebreaker taking home second place medal including in a back 9 finish of 5 straight birdies. Liam's 65 was the low round of the tournament by 3 shots. Charles Uzelac earned the third place medal with his final round, bogey-free 68.
Eli Wessel shot the low round day one with a 68 to fuel his play to a first place finish for The University of Michigan tournament on Tuesday-Wednesday July 18-19. Parker Wells took home the third place medal with rounds of 87-81.
