Gilmore Back in Winner's Circle
Happy Gilmore fired a 70 on the second day of the Golfweek Junior Tour event at Purgatory on Sunday to claim his third career GJT title. Happy actually had the low round of the day on Saturday with a 73 and then followed that up with the 2-under par 70 that tied for Sunday's low round. Four straight birdies on the front nine on Sunday propelled Gilmore to his first win since last July. His 143 total was two shots clear of the nearest competitor. Jacob Modleski shot 75-70 for a 145 total and finished the weekend in second place. Alec Barker rounded out the top three with a 75-72, 147 total overall.
Ryan Parker collected four birdies en route to a final round 70 that was his third career Golfweek Junior Tour win. Ryan started Sunday's round two back, but caught up and took the lead with a birdie on the 5th hole and never relinquished his lead. It is the second win in two weeks for Parker as he also won last week at Stone Ridge Golf Club. His great play on the weekend allowed him to finish 6 shots ahead of anyone else in his division. Cayse Morgan and Brayden Miller shot identical scores of 76-75 for a 151 total which tied for second place.
Luc Kelty was the story of the tournament on Sunday. Luc ran off six birdies on the front nine on Sunday and then birdied the final two holes of the tournament for an eight under par 64. The 64 is just one shot off the GJT 13 and Under scoring record. The victory is the first for Luc in his GJT career. Luc's total of 136 (72-64) is one of the best in GJT history. He finished the tournament 10 strokes ahead of anyone else. Macauley Myers shot 74-72 for a 146 total to finish in second place. Elijah Lemmon captured a third place finish with a 74-75, 149 total.
Ava Bunker posted rounds of 75-73 to capture her 9th GJT win. Her 148 total helped her clear the field by 5 shots over the weekend at Purgatory. Sunday's round included two front nine birdies on her way to a clean 34. She coasted home with a 39 on the back for the win. Eleanor Schuitema shot 78-75 to finish alone in second with a 153 total. Lorna Zhang had the low round of the tournament with a 72 in the first round and finished in third at 154 total.
Paige Williams won in her first Golfweek Junior Tour event ever. Paige shot rounds of 96-101 to finish with a 197 total. Paige played the first seven holes of the tournament in six over par to establish a good pace.
