Elite Event at Kearney Hill
Victor Caliguri's last victory on the GolfWeek Jr Tour came while playing in the Boys 13 & under division in the Spring of 2018. This weekend he took down one of the strongest fields of the year with a walk off eagle on the 18th and final hole of the tournament. On his way to a 2 stroke victory, Victor played near flawless golf both days and only recorded 3 bogies all weekend. His 8 birdies and an eagle got him to a 7 under par, 137 total and was enough to hold off Ieuan Jones, a nine time winner on the GolfWeek Jr Tour, Victor's two day total was also good enough to take home the overall boys title and the IMG Academy World Championship exemption.
Ava Bunker has amassed 7 wins on the GolfWeek Jr Tour, but this past weekend's elite event was her biggest victory to date. At Kearney Hill the eighth grader had to hold off Cathryn Brown (committed to University of Kentucky) and Chloe and Faith Johnson (committed to Furman university) after posting the medalist round Saturday, a 3 under par 69. Her Sunday morning would get off to a rocky start with a bogey at the second and a double at the 6th. She would turn things around by rattling off 9 pars in a row and birdieing the 16th and 17th holes to claim the victory and post a 2 under par, 142 total. Her victory also gives her an exemption into the 2022 IMG Academy World Championship.
Griffin Barke has made impressive showings this Spring in the Elite Events with a 2nd place at Harmony Landing and now a victory at Kearney Hill this past weekend. This marks Griffin's 6th career victory on the GolfWeek Jr Tour and it did not come easy. Starting the day 2 strokes behind first round medalist Michael Stagnaro, who fired a 68 on Saturday, Griffin started the second round with two straight birdies to pull even. Michael would pull ahead 1 stroke in the next 7 holes, Griffin would close out the final nine with an even par 36 to claim the victory by two strokes over a very strong field.
