Breakthrough wins at Beavercreek

A new tournament record was set at Beavercreek this past weekend by Zack Beard with a red hot 69-67, 8 under par total. What makes it so impressive is that second place finisher, Brandon Nowery, posted a 2 under par total which tied for the previous tournament low, and would still place 6 shots back of Zack Beard.

The weekend was started with a birdie on the second hole, and Zack would go on to make 9 birdies and an eagle for the weekend. If he was nervous heading into the second round, it didn't show with his performance as he started with an eagle on the second hole, and birdies on the 5th and 6th holes. He would play his final nine without a bogey and score 34 to take home the record performance.

Morgan Rogers would breakthrough this weekend after a previous streak of 4 consecutive runner-up finishes on the GolfWeek Jr Tour to win by two strokes. Her other previous win on the GolfWeek Jr Tour came back in 2019, also at Beavercreek, in the Girls 14 & Under division.

It was the back nine where Morgan won the tournament as she played that nine holes, both days, in 37 strokes and would end both rounds with a birdie on the final hole. She would win the event by 2 strokes over Kylah Lunsford, who was playing in the same group as Morgan, and Audrey Ryu, who scored the low round of the event with an even par 72.

After posting the low round of his division by 5 strokes on Saturday, Davis Gochenouer was able to coast to a victory on Sunday with a two round total of 149 and a win by 4 strokes. This is Davis' second win on the GolfWeek Jr Tour and he is quickly becoming a routine contender in the Boys 14-15 division as well as the overall boys division. His solid play during the weekend included 4 birdies and a closing nine hole score of 36.

Brigid Nickell may have posted one of the best rounds of the tournament given that she is only going into her freshman year of highschool and posted the second best round of any girl for the weekend. Her round included 4 birdies on her way to claiming the girls 14 & Under division and her first win on the GolfWeek Jr Tour.

Aaryan Ball claimed his first victory on the GolfWeek Jr Tour with his lowest two day total, a score of 158. On his way to his victory he would card 2 birdies as well as an eagle on the second hole of the tournament. He would have to hold off Dyla Somma who made a charge on the back nine Sunday with a 37 on the back nine and a birdie on the 17th hole. It fell just short of Aaryan though who would also birdie the 17th hole and keep the lead he established in round 1.
