Wright and English at Michigan State
Avery Wright came out firing on Sunday at Michigan State's Forest Aker's course with a front nine 35 that included a birdie on the 1st hole and an eagle on the par five 8th. She added a birdie on the back nine before cruising in with a 75 to cap off her first win on the GolfWeek Jr Tour. She also claimed the overall girls title over Payton Donnelly (156) and Teddi Bishop (157).
Chipping in on the last hole Saturday to record the lowest competition round he has ever had, Brockton English, set the pace for the Boys 14-19 divisions with a 67 that included 6 birdies and just 1 bogey. Following up that medalist first round, Brockton would post a 1 under on Sunday for the lowest round of day two as well. His 6 stroke victory in the Boys 16-19 division was also good for the overall Boys 14-19 title for his first win in almost 2 years on the GolfWeek Jr Tour
After winning at Purdue's Kampen course last weekend, Drew Miller continued his dominance of the Boys 14-15 division with a win this weekend at Michigan State's west course. Having started the round with a birdie on the first hole Sunday, his momentum slowed during the start of the back nine. Drew was able to fend off Lorenzo Pinili and Ryan O'Rourke, though, going 1 under his last 5 holes with a crucial birdie on the 35th hole of the competition.
Playing in her first GolfWeek Jr Tour event, Alena Li found the winner's circle Sunday by holding steady and playing solid golf. Her Sunday round included 9 pars and a birdie on the 4th hole to claim the low round of the day and the division title by 3 strokes over Macie Elzinga (165).
Claiming his first title on the GolfWeek tour in over a year, Brian Tillman carded a 71 on Sunday, even after starting with a triple bogey on the first hole. He started his come back right away on #2 with a birdie and would add another 5 birdies in the round to post the low round of the day. On a day that featured some difficult pin locations, Brian's 6 birdies was enough to claim the victory over Jackson Harris (148) and Leandro Pinili (151).
