Dramatic win for Oehrle

Adam Oehrle poses after a shot during his victory at Avalon Lakes.

WARREN, Ohio – Aidan Oehrle holed out from 70 yards for birdie on the first playoff to defeat Cole Christman in the Boys 16-19 division at Avalon Golf and Country Club’s Avalon Lakes Course.

After Oehrle and Christman both finished even par through regulation, Christman hit a big drive and a wedge to 10 feet at the first playoff and putting him in prime position as Oehrle’s second shot clipped a tree and left him 70 yards away. After Oehrle dramatically holed out from there, Christman failed to convert his birdie putt.

The victory earned Oehrle a spot in the Junior Worlds.

Christman’s defeat in the playoff dashed a dramatic finish in regulation to force that playoff. He played the final eight holes in bogey-free 4-under-par including birdies on three of the last four. The birdie at the last engineered a 2-shot swing in his favor as Oehrle would make bogey there.

Oehrle shot 71-73—144 while Christman went 73-71—144.

Dylan Fitchet shot 73-72—145 and missed the playoff with a bogey on the final hole to finish alone in third place.

Rounding out the top five were Grant Gobezie (68-79—147) and Andrew Wyss (72-75—147).
