McCollins victorious at Heatherwoode
SPRINGBORO, Ohio – Gunnar McCollins fired rounds of 72-68—140 in pulling out a 2-shot victory in the Boys 16-19 division at Heatherwood Golf Club.
McCollins started the final round trailing Luke Wells by one shot then was near-perfect Sunday in taking the lead. He made par on the first seven holes before back-to-back birdies at 8 and 9 to put him in front.
He later posted birdies at 13 and 17 before finishing with his first bogey at the last hole, but by then he had the tournament in hand.
Evan DiSanto shot 73-69—142 to claim sole possession of second place while Wells took third at 71-73—144.
Mychal McKelvey shot 72-75—147 for fourth place while the top five was rounded out by the trio of Jack Doody (78-70—148), Jordan Gilkson (75-73—148) and Jeffrey Main (74-74—148).
Murakami posts 3-shot win in Boys 14-15
Alejandro Murakami notched his second victory of the season by firing rounds of 73-68—141 in winning the Boys 14-15 division at Heatherwoode by three strokes.
Murakami, who won last September at Purgatory, battled from four shots back in the final round with a strong closing nine of 4-under 32. He trailed Oakley Gee by four before pulling even with birdies at their third and fourth holes Sunday. Trailing by two with eight holes to play, Murakami birdied three straight holes then notched two more at their 16th and 18th holes.
Gee finished at 69-75—144 to claim sole possession of second place while Mason Witt shot 76-70—146 to take third.
Hudepohl hangs on at Yankee Trace
At The Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville, Ohio, Eleanor Hudepohl survived a strong final charge from Nathaly Munnicha to capture the Girls 15-19 division by two shots.
Hudepohl shot 73-72—145 and saw Munnicha apply hit from ahead with four birdies against just one bogey. That meant Hudepohl needed to finish mistake-free to secure the victory and she did with birdies on three of the last 10 holes against just one bogey to go wire-to-wire for the win.
Hudepohl finished with rounds of 73-72—145 for her first GJT win in eight appearances while Munnicha finished alone in second place with scores of 78-69—147. Madison Spiess took third place with rounds of 76-72—148.
Coccia routs field in girls 14-and-Under
Anna Coccia bagged her fourth win of the season at Yankee Trace, taking down the girls 14-and-under field by 12 shots.
Coccia posted rounds of 75-75—150 and extended a 5-shot first-round lead with three birdies on her Sunday card.
Zoe Luebbers shot 80-82—162 to finish in a tie for second place with Morgan Rodgers (84-78—162).
McCarrell notches second win in Boys 13-and-Under
Logan McCarrell earned his second win of the season by claiming a 2-shot victory in the Boys 13-and-under division at Yankee Trace.
McCarrell fired rounds of 72-70—144 the played the first 11 holes Sunday in bogey-free 4-under-par to take control. His double bogey at the 12th hole narrowed the lead to two shots, but he followed that up with birdies on two of the next four holes to keep the field at bay.
Jake Rodgers finished at 73-71—144 to claim sole possession of second place while Landen Howard rounded out the top three at 74-71—145.
