Snyder survives Walden Ponds weather

INDIAN SPRINGS, Ohio -- Ethan Snyder broke through for his first GJT win by posting a 5-under total over 27 holes in the weather-shortened event at Walden Ponds Golf Club.
Snyder fired a 5-under-par 67 in Saturday’s opening round and followed that up with an even-par nine Sunday to beat Jack Doody and Griffin Kling by four strokes. In Saturday’s round Snyder posted seven birdies including five over the last 10 holes in which he played bogey-free.
Carrying a 2-shot lead into Sunday’s 9-hole final round, Snyder opened with a birdie on the opening hole and followed that up with seven pars and a bogey to keep the field at bay, finishing 67-36—103 for a 4-shot win.
Doody rallied on the final day and finished at 73-34—107 to finish in a tie for second place with Kling, who shot 69-38—107.
A quartet of players shared fourth place including Peyton Houston (72-36—108), Jude Cummings (69-39—108), Brock Aten (70-38—108) and Connor Gdovin (72-36—108).
Wotherspoon tops Murakami in Boys 14-15 playoff

Rylan Wotherspoon birdied the first playoff in beating Alejandro Murakami in the Boys 14-15 division at Walden Ponds.
Murakami birdied the final hole of regulation to set up the playoff, which went to Walden Ponds’ par-4 first hole. The playoff win marked Wotherspoon’s second win this season in two appearances and the fourth of his career.
Wotherspoon posted six birdies in an opening-round 1-under-par 71 to claim a 1-shot lead over Murakami. In Sunday’s final nine holes, Wotherspoon carded birdies at 14 and 15 to retain his lead before a bogey at the 16th. Murakami also made bogey at 16 to fall behind by one and setting up the drama on 18.
Wotherspoon finished regulation at 71-35—106 while Murakami shot 72-34—106.
Joe Wilson IV claimed sole possession of third place with rounds of 73-35—108.
Spiess notches second GJT win in Girls 15-19

At Elks Run Golf Club, Madison Spiess fired rounds of 73-73—146 to earn a 2-shot victory over Kayla Ramsey and Kristin Jamieson in the Girls 15-19 division.
The event was Spiess’ first of the current season and marked her second win overall on the GJT.
Tied with Jamieson after the first round, Spiess played a steady final round Sunday and took advantage of some early miscues by her opponents. While Jamieson suffered double bogeys at 3 and 5, and Ramsey double-bogied the fifth, Spiess played the front nine in even-par with one birdie and a bogey. That carried Spiess to a 5-shot lead she would not relinquish.
Ramsey finished with scores of 74-74—148 to finish in a tie for second with Jamieson, who shot 73-75—148.
Kary Hollenbaugh rounded out the top four with scores of 80-72—152.
Coccia tops Wu in Girls U14 playoff

Anna Coccia’s par on the second playoff was good enough to defeat Meiyi Wu in the Girls 14-and-under division at Elks Run.
Coccia finished with rounds of 87-83—170 and made par on the final hole of regulation to force the playoff with Wu, who made bogey at the last.
Wu shot 84-86—170 in regulation.
The victory was the second of the season for Coccia, who won a weather-shortened event at Keene Run in March.
Ella Puthoff finished third at 100-92—192.
Thomis rolls in Boys 13-and-Under

Warren Thomis parlayed a scorching opening round into a 5-shot victory in the Boys 13-and-under division at Elks Run.
Thomis shot 68-74—142 in going wire-to-wire for the win.
In his opening round, where only one bogey was recorded, Thomis built a 4-shot lead over Maverick Conaway and he was never threatened. He continued his steady play by starting Sunday’s final round with a birdie and no bogeys through five holes. At that point he had stretched his lead to six strokes and cruised the rest of the way.
Conaway finished at 72-75—147 to finish in a tie for second place with Logan McCarrell at 73-74—147. Landen Howard fired rounds of 80-70—150 to claim sole possession of fourth place.
