Butler's scorching finish wins at Harmony
GOSHEN, Ky. – John Marshall Butler played his final 10 holes in 6-under-par in rallying for a 3-shot victory in the Boys 16-19 division at Harmony Landing.
Butler began the final round two shots behind leader C.M. Mixon then moved ahead with birdies on two of the first three holes Sunday. He was involved with a dozen other players who lingered near the lead for the opening nine holes.
After bogeys at 6 and 8, Butler began his charge with a birdie at 9 then played 11 and 12 in bogey-eagle. At that point Butler led Luke Coyle by one shot and he would cement the victory with birdies on each of the final two holes.
Butler finished with rounds of 70-66—136 while Coyle finished alone in second at 69-70—139. Mixon fired rounds of 68-72—140 to claim sole possession of third place while Tyler Allred (70-72—142) and Drew Doyle (70-72—142) rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth.
Ty Gingerich shot 69-74—143 to finish in a tie for sixth place with Ben Hoagland (70-73—143).
Johnson breaks through in Girls 15-19
Faith Johnson picked up her first GJT victory in the Girls 15-19 division thanks to a final-round 4-under-par 68 at Harmony Landing.
Johnson was two shots behind the leaders to start the final round and played the first two holes in eagle-birdie to move in front. She kept the field at bay with pars on each of the next nine holes before another birdie gave her safe distance.
Johnson finished with rounds of 77-68—145 to finish five shots in front of Morgan Pankow, who shot 75-75—150.
Annaliese Fox claimed sole possession of third place at 77-74—151.
Warren notches first win in Boys 14-15
Hayden Warren fired rounds of 75-70—145 in winning the Boys 14-15 division at Harmony Landing by four shots.
The victory was Warren’s first in 10 events on the GJT going back through 2017.
Warren held a one shot lead after the first round and was the only player in the field to go under par the second day. After making the turn in 1-over-par, he was flawless on the homestretch with no bogeys while notching birdies at 11, 15 and 18.
Christian McIntosh shot 77-72—149 to take second place while Tyler Sabo and Jackson Hill each had identical rounds of 76-76—152 to share third place.
Brown tops Sutherland in playoff
Macie Brown birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Abigail Sutherland in the Girls 14-and-under division at Harmony Landing.
The victory marked Brown’s second in three appearances on the GJT.
Brown held a 5-shot lead after the first round then saw Sutherland slowly catch up during Sunday’s round. Sutherland tied Brown with a par at 16 then grabbed the lead with a birdie at 17. Brown’s par at the last combined with Sutherland’s bogey set up the final drama at the first hole.
Brown finished regulation at 75-77—152 while Sutherland shot 80-72—152.
Jenna Estravillo fired rounds of 83-80—163 for third place.
