Shinn goes low at Vandy

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Liam Shinn recorded 11 birdies over two rounds in routing the field of the Boys 16-19 division at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course.

Shinn fired rounds of 66-69—135 in winning by eight strokes.

Shinn’s opening round consisted of birdies at holes 2, 6, 13, 14, 16 and 18 with just one bogey on the card. Having built a 6-shot lead, Shinn was able to survive a pair of early bogeys Sunday before rebounding with birdies at 7 and 9 then closing with three birdies over the last six holes.

In a three-way tie for second place were Jaron Leasure (74-69—143), Reeve Felner (74-69—143) and Aidan Lafferty (72-71—143).

Tied for fifth was the trio of Nels Surtani (75-69—144), Braden Hoisington (73-71—144) and Thomas Morrison (72-72—144).

Lauer wins playoff in Boys 14-15

Adam Lauer’s par on the fourth playoff hole helped him beat Clay Pendergrass in the Boys 14-15 division at Vanderbilt Legends.

Lauer shot 74-70—144 and overcame a 3-shot deficit with nine holes to play in regulation to set up the playoff. Pendergrass, who finished at 75-69—144, notched four birdies over the front nine on Sunday to give him a 3-stroke advantage at that point. His lone bogey on the inward nine came at the third and that’s where Lauer caught him with a birdie. Both players secured pars the rest of the way to set up the playoff, which started at No. 1.

Lauer and Pendergrass matched pars on the first three holes before Lauer’s winning par at the fourth.

The victory marked Lauer’s second victory in two appearances this season.

Johnny Gruninger shot 76-71—147 to finish alone in third place while Gavin Clutts took fourth with rounds of 75-73—148.

Watson wins playoff at Westhaven

Anna Watson beat Kirsty Mitchell on the first playoff hole to win the Girls 15-19 division at Westhaven Golf Club.

Watson shot 78-75—153 in regulation before winning with a par at the first hole of the playoff. Mitchell fired rounds of 81-72—153.

Watson carried a 3-shot lead into the final round then saw Mitchell catch her with a flurry of birdies on Sunday’s front nine. Mitchell;s third birdie came at the par-4 eighth and drew her even with Watson at that point.

Following back-to-back bogeys by Watson at 14 and 15, Mitchell owned a 2-shot lead with just three to play, but Watson caught her with a par-birdie-par finish.

Shelly Jang shot 81-74—155 to finish alone in third and was followed by Abigail Whittington (83-75—158) and Hayley Dye (83-78—161.
