Birdie machine: Perry rolls in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – Henry Perry carded 12 birdies over 36 holes en route to a 2-shot victory in the Boys 16-19 division at Dayton Country Club.

Avery Green

Perry fired rounds of 68-72—140 and held off a strong charge from Avery Green.

In his opening round, Perry notched birdies at 5, 6, 9, 13, 17 and 18 with his double bogey at the 15th the only thing keeping him from total separation from the field. He carried a 3-shot lead over Dylan Stevens into the final round and went out in 2-under 34 in the final round to hold secure on the lead.

Preston Nanthavong

Green, who started the final round five shots behind Perry, birdied four of the final five holes to make a late surge into a runner-up finish. He ended at 73-69—142 for sole possession of second place while Lucas Palicki finished alone in third at 72-75—147.

Preston Nanthavong shot 73-75—148 to take fourth place while Matt Knight rounded out the top five with scores of 74-75—149.

Davis rolls in Girls 15-19

Kayla Davis

Kayla Davis fired rounds of 76-78—154 in winning the Girls 15-19 division at Dayton CC by 12 shots.

Davis’ birdies at 11 and 18 helped to build an 8-shot lead after the first round and no one was able to make a serious challenge over the final 18 holes. In the second round, Davis held steady with no scores over bogey and birdies at 2 and 18.

Kayla Ramsey shot 85-81—166 to take second place while Mallory Lovell took third with rounds of 84-85—169.

Sylla wins earns 6-shot victory in Boys 14-15

Ty Silla

Ty Sylla fired rounds of 74-77—151 to beat Stephan Bolan by six shots in the Boys 14-15 division at Dayton CC.

Sylla’s opening round, which included birdies at 4 and 10, was able to overcome a triple bogey at No. 3 and a 3-shot advantage over Wyatt Woodard. In the final round, Sylla was able to extend his lead with an early birdie at the second while no one in the field was able to make a significant charge.

Bolan finished at 81-76—157 while Matthew Daulton (80-81—161) and Benjamin Dearth (82-79—161) shared third place.

Fred Gilbert rounded out the top-5 with rounds of 84-78—162.

McNutt wins 2-player duel in Girls 14-and-Under

Ellie McNutt

Ellie McNutt shot 94-96—190 to defeat Fiona Hoskins in a 2-player match in the Girls 14-and-under division at Dayton CC.

McNutt’s birdie at the ninth during the first round helped her overcome a quadruple bogey at the sixth and created the initial surge that led to her wire-to-wire win.

The victory came in McNutt’s GJT debut.

Howard’s eagle leads to win in Boys 13-and-Under

Landen Howard

Landen Howard holed out for an eagle-2 at the ninth hole and helping him to surge to victory in the Boys 13-and-under division at Dayton CC

Howard finished with rounds of 83-78—161 and was able to break an opening-round deadlock with A.J. Wilhelm.

The victory was Howard’s second on the GJT.

Wilhelm shot 83-86—169 and still held tied for the lead after his birdie on the par-5 sixth. He fell back with a triple bogey on 6 then could never overcome Howard’s eagle on 9.

Bryce Kelley finished third at 100-85—185.
