Salyers goes low at Cherry Blossom

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Drew Salyers fired rounds of 68-69—137 to win the Boys overall title and Boys 14-15 title at Cherry Blossom Golf and Country Club.

In the opening round, Salyers took command by playing the first 14 holes in bogey-free 5-under-par. Holding a 5-shot lead, Salyers kept his foot on the gas Sunday, responding to a double bogey at No. 6 with three straight birdies. He ran away from the field in the Boys 14-15 division by 11 shots while he won the overall title by six shots over Brendan Dunphy.

In the Boys 14-15 Division, Alex Hadden shot 73-75—148 to share second place with Thomas Latter (74-74—148). Allan Lockwood placed fourth with rounds of 75-74—149 while Mason Witt rounded out the top five at 77-73—150.

Dunphy wins tight battl in Boys 16-19

Brendan Dunphy’s birdie at the 17th hole of Sunday’s final round engineered a 2-shot swing in his favor as he defeated Oscar Zimmerman by one shot in the Boys 16-19 division at Cherry Blossom.

Dunphy and Zimmerman traded the lead several times Sunday then went to the final three holes with Zimmerman ahead by two. Zimmerman made bogey at the 16th before Dunphy’s birdie at 17 engineered a 2-shot swing in his favor.

Zimmerman finished alone in second at 74-70—144 and was followed by Conner Stevens (76-70—146) and Michael Collins (71-75—146) who tied for third place. Brody Webbfired rounds of 76-71—147 to claim sole possession of fifth place.

Chan claims 2-shot win in Girls 15-19

Angelina Chan fired rounds of 73-71—144 to beat Hailey Katona by two shots in the Girls 15-19 division at Cherry Blossom.

Chan and Katona were tied with five holes remaining Sunday then Chan carded birdies at the 14th and 18th holes to surge ahead for the victory. Chan made eight birdies over the two rounds to help her cause.

Katona shot 73-73—146 for sole possession of second place while MacKenzie Neal took third place at 74-76—150.

Heather Fortushniak (75-76—151) and Taylor Edlin (76-75—151) rounded out the top five.

Hu rolls In Girls 14-and-Under

Rachel Hu put together rounds of 69-78—147 to hold off Kirsty Mitchell by four shots in the Girls 14-and-under division at Cherry Blossom.

Hu rallied from a bogey-bogey-bogey start to the tournament by playing the next 15 holes in bogey-free 6-under-par. That surge helped her build an insurmountable 6-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

Mitchell shot 75-76—151 for sole possession of second place and Julia Rabadam rounded out the top three with scores of 78-78—156.

Bennett goes wire-to-wire in Boys 13-and-Under

Alex Bennett carded three birdies in the opening round to jump out to a 4-shot lead that he would never relinquish in the Boys 13-and-under division at Cherry Blossom.

Bennett finished with rounds of 74-75—149 and was able to hold back the field during a steady Sunday round that included 15 pars.

Michael Long shot 78-74—152 to take second place while Max Hahn round placed third at 79-74—153.
