Smith routs field at UM

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Marcus Smith fired rounds of 70-73—143 in cruising to a 7-shot victory in the Boys 16-19 division at the University of Michigan Golf Course.

In his opening round of 1-under-par, Smith posted four birdies and took a 2-shot lead over Will Anderson. He was able to extend his lead with a birdie at the opening hole of the final round and never relinquished the lead in another four-birdie round.

Matthew Cammeyer posted two birdies in the final round in surging to finish alone in second place with rounds of 76-74—150. He led a group of five players all tied for third place at 151: Anderson (72-79), Kristian Fortis (78-73), Cameron Cowland (76-75), Noah Kolar (73-78) and Andrew Kolar 974-77).

Katona routs field in Girls 15-19

Hailey Katona

Hailey Katona went wire-to-wire in steamrolling to a 10-shot win in the Girls 15-19 division at the University of Michigan Golf Course.

Katona fired rounds of 72-76—148 and never trailed throughout the entire event. Her opening round was highlighted by a an eagle-2 at the par-4 No. 2 that came along with three birdies. Her 72 gave her a comfortable 7-shot lead going into the final round in which she posted three more birdies in extending her lead.

Sharing second place was Alicia Porvasnik, who shot 84-74—158, and Allison Cui, who shot 81-77—158.

Lexi Knight and Amaya Melendez each put together identical rounds of 80-80—160 to round out the top five.

Pinili surges for win in Boys 14-15 division

Lorenzo Pinili

Lorenzo Pinili overcame a 2-shot deficit in rallying to a 5-shot win in the Boys 14-15 division at the University of Michigan Golf Course.

Pinili fired rounds of 78-70—148 and made his move on his seventh and eighth holes of the final round with a pair of birdies. He later closed the final five hole in bogey-free 1-under-par to separate himself from the field.

Jack Guerrera, who shared the first round lead with Ethan Tran, posted rounds of 76-77—153 to finish in sole possession of second place. Tran finished third at 76-78—154.
