Greaser wins tight battle at Heatherwoode

SPRINGBORO, Ohio -- Austin Greaser played the final 10 holes in bogey-free 3-under-par to win a tight battle over Kyle Schmidt in the Boys 16-19 division at Heatherwoode Golf Club.

Greaser finished with rounds of 68-68—136 while Schmidt came in at 69-68—137.

In the final round, Greaser and Schmidt separated themselves from the field to make things a two-player affair. Schmidt posted birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 6 to take a 1-shot lead. After Greaser’s bogey at 8, Schmidt held a 2-shot advantage and that’s when Greaser went on a roll.

Greaser rebounded with birdies at 9 and 10 to draw even and moved back in front when Schmidt bogeyed the 12th.

Jake Miller shot 70-75—145 to claim sole possession of third place while Jack Wertz took fourth at 72-75—147. Luke Wells rounded out the top five with rounds of 72-76—148 while the trio of Jack Soper (76-73—149), Jack Kozlowski (73-76—149) and Brock Aten (72-77—149) all tied for sixth.

 

Whittington closes strong at Yankee Trace

 

 

Abigail Whittington finished with two birdies over the last three holes in securing victory in the Girls 15-19 division played at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.

Whittington finished with rounds of 76-70—146 while Marissa Wenzler (75-74—149) and first round leader Nathaly Munnicha (70-79—149) finished tied for second.

Munnicha led by five shots through the first five holes when Whittington carded back-to-back birdies and pulled within one shot at the turn. Munnicha saw a 3-shot lead evaporate on the par-5 7th (her 16th hole played) when she posted a 9 to Whittington’s birdie-4.

Faith Johnson finished at 75-76—151 to take fourth place while Macy Hanus (73-79—152) and Kaitlyn Rittner (73-79-152) shared fifth place.

 

Witt hangs on for Boys 14-15 title

 

 

Mason Witt fired rounds of 73-74—147 and survived a wild closing nine in securing a 1-shot victory over Benjamin Basta in the Boys 14-15 division at Heatherwoode.

Witt entered the final round tied with Eric Cherubini and a shot over Basta. With his even-par outgoing nine Witt was able to stretch that lead to three. With five bogeys and two birdies on the inward nine, Witt saw his fluctuate from 1-2 shots, but he never relinquished it despite a 2-shot swing in Basta’s favor on the final hole.

Basta finished at 74-74—148 to claim sole possession of second place while Alejandro Murakami (75-74—149) and Cherubini (73-76—149).

 

Wotherspoon rolls in Boys 13-and-Under

 

 

Rylan Wotherspoon shot 70-71—141 in a dominating performance in the Boys 13-and-under division at Heatherwoode.

Wotherspoon led Adam Horn by one stroke entering the final round and held that position through the first 12 holes. Horn would make double bogey on his 13th hole and finish with four straight bogeys while Wotherspoon birdied two of the final four holes to separate himself from the field.

Horn would finish at 71-77—148 to take third place, one shot behind Lorenzo Pinili, who birdied two of the last three holes in surging to a second-place finish at 74-73—147.

Shubham Nain fired rounds of 76-73—149 to take fourth place.

 

Ritter edges Hu in Girls 14-and-Under

 

 

Anna Ritter shot 76-75—151 to post a 1-shot victory over Rachel Hu in the Girls 14-and-under division at Heatherwoode.

Ritter and Hu entered the final round tied for the lead, which Ritter then grabbed with a 1-under-par showing over the first eight holes. That put Ritter up by three before three straight bogeys at that point brought the two back together.

Ritter’s par on her 16th hole proved the difference as Hu made bogey and could not catch her on the final two holes.

Hu shot 76-76—152 to take second place while Kary Hollenbaugh finished alone in third place at 78-75—153.
