Runaways at Windmill Lakes

Ravenna, Ohio –Max Watson fired an opening-round 5-under-par 65 to assume total control en route to a 10-shot victory in the Boys 16-19 division at Windmill Lakes Golf Club.

Watson notched seven birdies in his opening round in which he stormed out to an 8-shot lead over

Cole Christman. With the comfortable lead, Watson’s victory was never in jeopardy despite a double bogey his seventh hole which he quickly answered with a birdie at the next.

Watson finished at 65-71—136 while Christman was able to hold on to his second-place position with scores of 73-73—146.

Conner Stevens claimed sole possession of third place with scores of 74-73—147 while a trio of players shared fourth place: Andrew Wyss (75-73—148), Jimmy Graham (75-73—148) and Nick Naumovski (76-72—148).

Pierre Southibounnorath (74-75—149), Colton Levey (74-75—149) and Ethan Snyder(79-70—149) tied for seventh place while Alex Anderson rounded out the top 10 with scores of 76-76—152.

Trombetta routs field in Girls 15-19 Division

 

Sophia Trombetta fired rounds of 66-70—136 to claim a 10-shot victory in the Girls 15-19 division at Windmill Lakes.

The 136 total set a new 36-hole scoring record on the Golfweek Junior Tour.

Trombetta carded five birdies and a bogey during her opening round in which she built a 5-shot lead over Madison Spiess. In the final round, Trombetta left no room for a comeback, playing the first 12 holes in bogey-free 1-under-par.

Spiess finished at 71-75—146 to finish in a tie for second with Madison Reemsnyder (73-73—146) and Grace Mitchell (76-70—146).

Jessica Hahn rounded out the top five with scores of 75-73—148.

Sehra wins close battle in Boys 14-15

 

Shawn Sehra reversed a 1-shot deficit with three holes to play into a 2-shot victory in the Boys 14-15 division at Windmill Lakes.

Sehra shot 68-71—139 and led Drew Salyers by two shots entering Sunday’s final round. Salyers carded three straight birdies during the outgoing nine and led by one with three holes remaining. Salyers finished with three straight birdies while Sehra carded one birdie and one bogey over that span to take home the win.

Salyers finished alone in second with rounds of 70-71—141, followed by Joshua Qian in third place at 73-73—146.

Rounding out the top five were Nathan Brown (73-74—147) and Grant Smeltzer (72-75—147).

Debagia outlasts Ritter in Girls 14-and-Under

Madison Dabagia overcame a 2-shot deficit in the final round to rally for a narrow victory over Anna Ritter in the Girls 14-and-under division at Windmill Lakes.

Dabagia shot 74-70—144 and played Sunday’s outgoing nine in bogey-free 1-under-par to move into a share of the lead with Ritter. The two remain tied with four holes to play when Ritter stumbled to a double bogey at the 15th handing the Dabagia a lead she would not relinquish.

Ritter finished at 72-73—145 for sole possession of second place while Kirsty Mitchell shot 78-77—155 for third place. Rachel Hu shot 74-82—156 to take fourth.

Haynes goes wire-to-wire in Boys 13-and-Under

Nolan Haynes put together rounds of 69-70—139 in earning a wire-to-wire 4-shot victory in the Boys 13-and-under division at Windmill Lakes.

Haynes entered the final round with a 2-shot lead over Jack Vojtko, who score two early birdies in his Sunday round to move into a share of the lead. But Haynes was busy playing the final 17 holes in bogey-free 1-under-par to put away Vojtko, who fell back with double bogeys at Nos. 7 and 15.

Vojtko shot 71-72—143 for sole possession of second place while Ryan O’Rourke placed third with rounds of 74-73—147.
