Yellamaraju wins at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Sudarshan Yellamaraju picked up his second victory of the season in the Boys 16-19 division, playing 27 holes of the weather shortened event at Bowling Green Country Club in 4-under-par.

 

Yellamaraju, who won at Purgatory in September and finished in the top-10 in his two most recent events, posted an eagle at the par-5 14th en route to a 67 Sunday, good for a 3-shot victory over Patton Samuels and C.M. Mixon.

Yellamaraju shot a 1-over-par 37 Saturday to trail Mixon by two then notched birdies at holes 2, 5 and 8 to move out front. In addition to the eagle at 14, Yellamaraju had birdies on 10 and 18 to secure the victory.

Samuels (40-67—107) stormed into contention by holing out for eagle on the par-4 10th Sunday. He played the last 15 holes in bogey-free 5-under-par. Mixon (35-72—107), the leader heading into Sunday’s final round, struggled out of the gate with bogeys on two of the first four holes before settling into a nice round with birdies at 8, 9 and 14.

Trenton Johnson shot 36-73—109 to claim sole possession of fourth place while Stephen Warren took fifth at 42-71—113.

 

Gibbs tops Rolston in playoff

 

 

Delia Gibbs’ par on the first playoff hole was good enough to beat Yanah Rolston in the Girls 15-19 division at Bowling Green.

Gibbs shot 42-75—117 and overcame a 3-shot deficit to Rolston in setting up the playoff. She posted birdies at 8 and 12 while and early triple bogey gave Rolston trouble as she finished at 39-78--117. The tournament marked the GJT debut for both players.

Abbie Lee shot 39-80—119 for sole possession of third place and was followed by Grace Mitchell in fourth with rounds of 45-81—126.

 

Haynes rolls in Boys 14-15 division

 

 

Nolan Haynes fired rounds of 35-75—110 in cruising to a 6-shot victory in the Boys 14-15 division at Bowling Green.

Haynes’ 1-under-par 35 in the opening round staked him to a 4-shot lead that was put in jeopardy Sunday with a bogey-double bogey start. He rebounded with a birdie at No. 5 and later posted birdies at 14 and 18 to ensure the rout.

Michael Wareham and Tyler Mitts each shot identical rounds of 39-77—116 to tie for second place while Grant Puckett took fourth at 38-39—117.

 

Sutherland wins Girls 14-and-Under by six shots

 

 

Abigail Sutherland picked up her first GJT victory with a 6-shot victory over Macie Brown in the Girls 14-and-under division at Bowling Green.

Sutherland carried just a 1-shot lead into the final round but fell behind with an early bogey and double bogey Sunday. She and Brown went back and forth with the lead most of the day and were tied with four holes remaining. From there, Sutherland played the final four holes in 1-under-par including birdies at 17 and 18.

Brown finished alone in second with round of 44-83—127.

 

Barke breaks through for first win in Boys 13-and-Under

 

 

Griffin Barke shot 42-78—120 to earn his first GJT win in the Boys 13-and-under division at Bowling Green.

Barke trailed Landen Howard by one shot heading into the final round and made a strong statement with a birdie on the opening hole Sunday. He built as much as a 4-shot lead on the inward nine before a double bogey and bogey at 14 and 15, respectively, brought Howard within one shot.

Barke responded with a birdie at 16 and sealed the victory when Howard took a double bogey at the last.

Howard finished at 41-82—123 for second place while Bradford Lacefield took third at 45-84—129.
