Gingerich sets tourney scoring record

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Ty Gingerich set a tournament scoring record with a 7-under-par total over two days at the Kampen Course of Purdue University.

Gingerich won the Boys 16-19 division with rounds of 71-66—137, two shots ahead of Luke Prall. The victory was Gingerich’s second over the last two seasons on the GJT.

Trailing Prall by four shots entering the final round, Gingerich started the day with four straight birdies then added another at the ninth that put him in the lead. On the inward nine, Gingerich stayed hot, posting birdies at 10, 14 and 18.

Prall’s consecutive bogeys at 8 and 9 put him behind, but he closed strong with three birdies on the inward nine to finish alone in second place at 67-72—139.

Cole Harris fired rounds of 70-71—141 for sole possession of third place while Isaac Rohleder shot 69-75—144 for fourth place.

Caleb Tidd rounded out the top five with rounds of 74-71—145.

Pierce wins 3-way playoff in Boys 14-15

Satchel Pierce birdied the first playoff hole to beat Alejandro Murakami and Ben Burgan in the Boys 14-15 division at Purdue.

Pierce overcame a double bogey on No. 7 during the final round and earned his way into the playoff with scores of 75-73—148. Murakami seemed to have a comfortable lead with three holes to play, but he finished with a double bogey at 16 and bogey at 17 to fall back into a tie.

Needing par on the final hole to win in regulation, Burgan made bogey on the 18th to joining the threesome at extra holes.

The playoff went to the par-5 10th where Pierce posted a birdie against two pars from his opponents.

In regulation, Murakami and Burgan both posted rounds of 74-74—148. Pierce Grieve shot 75-75—150 to claim fourth place while Andrew White rounded out the top five with scores of 77-75—152.

Conaway earns 2-shot win in Boys 13-and-Under

Maverick Conaway earned his first GJT victory by firing rounds of 78-73—151, one shot better than Brady Smith. Conaway began the final round two shots behind Jake Cesare then posted three birdies on a front nine 2-under-par 34 that moved him into a tie for the lead. Cesare then struggled on the closing nine with a pair of double bogeys while Conaway managed four pars and a birdie during that stretch to take command.

Smith finished with rounds of 80-73—153 for sole possession of second place while Cesare claimed third placed at 76-79—155.
