INDIAN SPRINGS, Ohio – In an event shortened to 18 holes due to inclement weather, Charlie Toman was able to take home the victory in the Boys 16-19 division at Walden Ponds Golf Club via his 4-under-par 78.
Toman, a Valparaiso commit, posted seven birdies in his Saturday round that carried him to a 2-shot victory over University of Dayton-bound Blake Solomon. He made birdies at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 before his first bogey at the seventh, but responded with three birdies over a 4-hole stretch to start the inward nine.
Solomon was nearly up to the task as he played the outgoing nine in bogey-free 1-under-par and reeled off three straight birdies from Nos. 11-13.
Solomon finished alone in second, one shot ahead of William McDavid and Ethan Snyder, who tied for third place a 71.
Rounding out the top five at even-par 72 was the trio of Andrew Shyu, Peyton Houston and Brock Aten.
Spiess earns 3-shot win in Girls 15-19
Madison Spiess fired a 1-over-par 73 en route to a 3-shot victory over Natalia Sompolvorachai and Marissa Wenzler in the Girls 15-19 division at Walden Ponds.
With birdies at 11 and 14, Spiess had pushed her round to 1-under-par and built a substantial lead that could withstand her bogey-par-bogey finish.
Sompolvorachai put together a round of 14 pars while Wenzler needed birdie on the final hole to match her for second-place honors.
Rounding out the top five in a tie for fourth place at 6-over-par 78 were Tzunami Polito and Elizabeth Harding.
Salyers near mistake-free in Boys 14-15 win
Drew Salyers made four birdies in his round in firing a 2-under-par 70 and winning the Boys 14-15 division at Walden Ponds by five strokes.
Salyers’ birdies came at 6, 10, 11 and 16 while the only blemish on his card came with a double bogey at the par-4 13th.
Kahmar Byers notched three birdies en route to a 75 and sole possession of second place while Shawn Sehra grabbed third-place honors with a 76.
Hu claims Girls 14-and-Under title
Despite two bogeys over the last three holes, Rachel Hu was able to secure the Girls 14-and-Under title at Walden Ponds with a 4-over-par 76.
Hu shot 40 on the outward nine then made birdie on three of the first six holes of the inward nine in getting to 2-over-par at that point. That gave her enough cushion to withstand a bogey-par-bogey finish.
Kary Hollenbaugh finished at 77 including a birdie at the 17th to forge a tie for second place with Anna Ritter who closed with her first birdie of the day on the final hole.
Caliguri rolls in Boys 13-and-Under

After a bogey at the second, Caliguri responded with a birdie at No. 4 then his eagle on the par-5 sixth. He would add his second birdie of the day at No. 12.
Jack O’Donnell, who also made birdie at No. 6, birdied the final hole en route to a 75 and sole possession of second place, two shots in front of Jack Snyder who posted an eagle at the 18th.
