Sawatyanon claims Boys 14-19 title at Mystic Dunes


CELEBRATION, Fla. – Papon Sawatyanon recovered from a rough early start to his final round and claimed the Boys overall title at Mystic Dunes Golf Club.

Sawatyanon, competing in the Boys 14-15 division, fired rounds of 70-74—144 and beat Ty Gingerich by three shots.

After an opening-round 70 left him five shots clear of the field, Sawatyanon stumble out of the gate in Sunday’s final round, making two bogeys and a double bogey in his first five holes. He came back with birdies on his 7th and 8th holes then added another on his 13th. Despite a double bogey at the next hole, Sawatyanon carded another birdie at his 16th hole and sewed up the two titles.

In the Boys 14-15 division, Sawatyanon finished 11 shots ahead of runner-up Luke Prall, who shot 78-77—155. Jayden Diaz finished alone in third place with rounds of 79-77—156.

Gingerich edges Parks in Boys 16-19

Ty Gingerich made an eagle on his 8th hole and that helped him to a 1-shot victory over Cooper Parks in the Boys 16-19 division at Mystic Dunes.

After an opening round 76, Gingerich made his move with a birdie on his sixth hole Sunday before the eagle at the eighth. With Parks enjoying a 3-birdie stretch over four holes to finish his outward nine, the two were set up for a tight finish.

Parks had opened with a 77 and when he birdied the 16th Sunday he drew even with Gingerich. Parks made bogey on the last hole while Gingerich made the last of his seven straight pars to conclude the round and win the title.

Gingerich finished at 76-71—147 while Parks shot 77-71—148 for sole possession of second place.

Joshua Kirkham, who played the middle 13 holes of his Sunday round in bogey-free 1-under-par, held even with Gingerich and Parks until a bogey-bogey finish that dropped him to third place at 75-74—149.

Alberto Martinez, who opened with an 81, rallied with four birdies on the closing nine to fire a tournament-best 69 Sunday and finished alone in fourth place.

Demaine wins two-player duel in Girls 14-and-Under

Rachel Demaine finished par-par-bogey to pull out a 2-shot victory over Kirsty Mitchell in the Girls 14-and-under division at Mystic Dunes.

Demaine finished at 85-88—173 and was tied with Mitchell with just two holes to play. At that point, Demain made par at the 17th to take the lead and wrapped up the victory when Mitchell made double bogey on the final hole.

Wilson dominates Boys 13-and-Under field

Joe Wilson IV fired rounds of 71-76—147 and rolled to a 10-shot victory in the Boys 13-and-under division at Mystic Dunes.

Wilson built an 8-shot lead over Ben Armbruster thanks to three birdies and an eagle in the opening round. He would not let up, starting the final round with birdies at the first two holes and creating an insurmountable gap for the followers to close.

Armbruster finished at 79-78—157 to share third place with Jack O’Donnell, who put together rounds of 80-77—157.
